Promote Environmental Education and Awareness

This will enhance public understanding of environmental issues through educational programs, workshops, and community outreach initiatives. Shall effectively collaborate with schools, universities, and other local organizations to disseminate knowledge about sustainable practices, conservation efforts, and the importance of biodiversity.

Foster Community Engagement in Environmental Stewardship

Encouraging community involvement is crucial for building a culture of environmental responsibility. The organization seeks to organize volunteer opportunities, such as tree-planting events, cleanup drives, and habitat restoration projects that allow community members to actively participate in preserving their local ecosystems.

Advocate for Sustainable Practices and Policies

EEGA shall work to influence policy changes across rural and urban communities by advocating for sustainable practices across sectors such as agriculture, energy production, waste management, and urban planning. This could include lobbying for legislation that supports renewable energy initiatives or for stricter pollution regulations.

Support Local Conservation Projects

By identifying and funding local conservation projects, EEGA will help in protecting endangered species and habitats within communities. The organization could provide grants or resources to grassroots initiatives focused on ecological restoration or wildlife protection.

Build Partnerships with other Structures

Forming alliances with other environmental organizations can amplify efforts towards common goals. Collaborating with non-profits, three governmental agencies, and businesses can lead to shared resources and expertise that enhance the effectiveness of conservation strategies.

Measure Impact through Research and Data Collection

The organization shall invest in research initiatives to assess environmental health indicators and track progress over time in intervention areas. Encourage Sustainable Business Practices among Members: This could involve providing resources or training on sustainable supply chain management, waste reduction, and eco-friendly product development.

Shared Land, Last Stand: Protecting Our Climate Guardians Before It Is Too Late

World Elephant Day, observed on August 12, highlights the importance of preserving Earth’s largest land mammals. Elephants support ecosystems by dispersing seeds, creating water sources, and shaping landscapes. Their role as "Climate Guardians" is especially vital in Cameroon, where rain forests and savannas converge. As rising temperatures and habitat loss threaten elephants globally, Cameroon has become a key area for their conservation. In villages where people and elephants share limited space, innovative approaches are demonstrating that protecting these animals also means rethinking how we coexist in a changing climate.

CLIMATE CHANGE IS REWRITING THE FATE OF ELEPHANTS

Elephants are cultural icons and essential to healthy ecosystems. They help combat climate change by dispersing seeds and sustaining carbon-rich forests. However, they now face survival challenges due to a rapidly warming climate. Shifting weather patterns disrupt their natural behaviors and threaten their populations. Their struggle highlights the urgent need for action, beginning with support for the communities living alongside them.

CALL TO ACTION

The survival of Cameroon’s elephants now relies on innovative initiatives in local villages. Baka hunters, previously regarded as poachers, now patrol protected forests. Mbororo herders use SMS alerts to track elephant migrations instead of traditional methods. Deng Deng-Belabo farmers plant buffer crops to protect their fields and support their families. These communities are advancing conservation by collaborating with the elephants in their region. As World Elephant Day approaches, we encourage you to take action by:

Highlight the essential connection between elephants and the climate system.
Strengthen anti-poaching laws and promote sustainable land use.
Integrate elephant habitats into national climate strategies.
Encourage collaboration among villages, governments, and international partners to support both community well-being and elephant conservation, strengthening global ecological resilience.

On World Elephant Day, we must decide whether to let elephants disappear or unite to protect them and their habitats as climate change intensifies. The future of these vital species depends on us. By leveraging community knowledge, effective protection, and climate-smart conservation, we can ensure a future where people and elephants thrive. Their call reminds us of our shared responsibility. Some EEGA mission areas

Deforestation accelerates climate change by releasing stored carbon and reducing the planet's capacity to absorb greenhouse gases. It also causes habitat loss, declining biodiversity, soil erosion, desertification, and disrupts the water cycle.

The Melap Forest Reserve near Foumban, Cameroon, faces deforestation and degradation, mainly from logging and farmland expansion. These activities have caused the loss of over 700 hectares between 2010 and 2021.

In partnership with reforestation experts, EEGA is establishing sustainable management practices to protect remaining forests and restore degraded areas.

Impact of Landslides on Communities in Cameroon

Communities in Cameroon have been threatened by natural disasters. One of the more common is landslides that pose a significant and multifaceted threat to the lives on the local inhabitants. Substantial socio-economic and environmental consequences have been cause by this phenomenon.

With the advent of climate change, the frequency of this hazard are increasing significantly. The Recent Dschang Hill-side in November 2024, that cause tense of lives loss has call for concern on road users, and local farmer working along hillslopes. EEGA has as a mission to sensitize the local communities on safety measures to take during landslide prone seasons (the wet or rainy seasons).

Statistics show that landslides in Cameroon are frequently triggered by heavy rainfall, a characteristic of the region's humid, tropical climate. Seismic triggered landslides are uncommon in the country but may be enhanced by highly saturated soils along cliffs and hill slope. Several research projects have been conducted to evaluate the causes of this frequent natural hazard and yet the level of sensitization of the local population with information on how to mitigate and manage the occurrence of this event is very low.

This explains the reason why so many people keep falling victim of this hazard in the national territory. Thus a lot need to be done to create awareness and prepare the local population on how to mitigate and manage this phenomenon in the future.

Save pangolins: Transforming young pangolin hunters into pangolin guardians

Pangolins, shy and scaly mammals, are found in Cameroon's forests and play a key role in maintaining healthy ecosystems by controlling insect populations. Sadly, they are critically endangered due to poaching and illegal trafficking. Conservation efforts in Cameroon aim to protect pangolins through education, anti-poaching patrols, and the preservation of their habitats. Protecting pangolins is vital for biodiversity and ecological balance in the region.

Through community workshops and school campaigns, EEGA, with financial support from the Pollination Project (TPP), has raised awareness about the role of pangolins in the ecosystem and the protection status of pangolins in 134 school children and 78 youths in Ngwatta community, transforming these campaign participants into pangolin guardians of the pangolins in Ngwatta community forest, a safe for the Endangered giant pangolin (Smutsia gigantea) and the white-bellied pangolin (Phataginus tricuspis), near Santchou Fauna Reserve.
